BCR NEWS : More power to women – 40 women from Dasna and nearby villages graduate out of Hindustan Coca-Cola’s Career Development Centers within the first 3 months of 2015

Ghaziabad, March 12, 2015: Career Development Centre (CDC), a joint initiative of Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Private Limited (HCCBPL), NIIT Foundation and Gram Niyojan Kendra, that focuses on bringing job oriented vocational training program within the easy reach of the educated, unemployed and undertrained youth of the area, today celebrated the successful training and graduation of 10 candidates from the neighboring community in Dasna that includes 9 villages.
Shri R.K. Agarwal, Member of Parliament, Hapur was present on the occasion and awarded training completion certificates to the graduates. Dr. Sutapa Mukherjee, Secretary – Gram Niyojan Kendra, Dr. Mala Bhandari, Director – SADRAG, HCCB’s NGO partner, HCCB’s NGO partner, Smt. Lalitha ji, Secretary, North India Anti-Trafficking Group and Dr. Jyoti Chopra, Medical Practitioner & CEO, Indo-German Hospital were also present at the function.
The 10 graduating candidates will now have an opportunity to apply and possibly get jobs with leading retail organizations.
The felicitation event was organized to mark the culmination of a week-long string of activities at HCCB’s Dasna plant that are in line with the country’s larger priorities around women empowerment and skill development.
The training curriculum included training at CDC’s Vocational Training Centre, Sarthak Tailoring Centre, Education initiatives, Health initiatives (health camps, health and social awareness camps), and a sanitation drive that engaged local community youth, especially the women from the adjoining 9 villages.
The CDC has benefitted almost 40 female associates this year through training and education; and 200 women have benefitted through Hindustan Coca-Cola’s other livelihood initiatives for the community.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prateek Dubey, Zonal Head – PAC, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, said, “Women are an important part of our social and economic fabric and deserve as much encouragement and support as we can provide them. We are implementing several programs that help in economic and social empowerment of women. We are glad that we have the support of our partners and the community to help CDC create value for the society.”
Smt. Lalitha ji Secretary, North India Anti-Trafficking Group, emphasizing on the importance of education for women, added, ““The entire community has to work together to address the issue of gender discrimination in India. Beti Bachao, Beti Padao should not only be the Government’s initiative, but should be followed by everyone across India. HCCB’s CDC programme is beneficial for women and their families as they are now earning income to support their household. This is the only way to get women in non-metros out of their houses and give them opportunities and platforms to grow.”
