9 more people killed in Haryana Jats protests

BCR NEWS (Haryana): Eight people killed in Haryana as Jat protested and demanded that they should be considered under the OBC category when it comes to jobs. The death toll rose to 9 since Friday.

More than 80 people were admitted in the hospital in the state. Last evening the curfew spread to many other places like Sonipat, Rohtak, Gohana, Bhiwani and Jhajjar.

The clash that took place in Jhajjar was considered to be the worst. A mob set fire to an electricity substation. They also attacked an Army column. The jawans opened fire and killed one protester. Six other protesters died in the hospital.

Protesters refused to remove blockades that were placed, NH1 was also blocked. Railway tracks were blocked, traffic was brought to a standstill. Sources from Jhajjar said that the violence began to spread all over and a mob set fire to a sport department’s office. The army jawans put in their efforts to stop them, but the mob started throwing stones on the Jawans this forced the Jawans to open fire at them. PK Das Haryana chief secretary said that “Another person died in Kalayat town of Kaithal in a clash.”

Apart from this people from Gohana town went on a rampage and threw stones on Congress MLA Jagbir Singh Malik’s house. The three shops owned by the MLA  was burnt down by the protesters. The mob also set fire to government buses, petrol pump and a local bike showroom. The army gained control in the area only by evening.

The protesters also attacked the house of Haryana agricultural minister Om Prakash Dhankar in Jhajjar. Only minor damages could be made.
