Tribute to Legendary Maestro was given at Sirifort Auditorium
BCR NEWS (New Delhi): On his 35th death anniversary, tribute was given to this pioneer of music industry in the presence of many Bollywood stars. Present at the event was music director Ismail Darbar, actor Rajeev Khandelwal, Anandji of Kalyanji Anandji and many more. Ismail captured the moment by singing ‘Lut Gaye’ from ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’. A live musical show by Bollywood singers and musicians was presented on the tunes of this magical singer. Even some dance performances were presented by small artists from all over India. Vaishnavi from popular singing show ‘Indian Idol’ also sang on the iconic song of Lata Mangeshkar ‘Pihu Papiya’. The event was organized by Suresh Kumar Raheja, founder of Mohd. Rafi Foundation.
The dynamic singer who gave us hits like ‘Likhe Jo Khat Tujhe’, ‘Abhi Na Jao Chhorh Kar’, ‘ Aaj Mausam Bada Beiman Hai’, ‘Taarif Karun Kya Uski’ continues to be one of the most cherished Indian singers and one who is emulated by generation after generation. Known for his sheer talent and depth in voice, that suited each occasion and every mood, He received six Filmfare Awards and one National Film Award. In 1967, he was honoured with the Padma Shri award by the Government of India.
The maestro whose songs today are just as popular as they were during his lifetime is still there in the hearts of every youngster. On the occasion, the popular songs such as ‘Gulabi Aankhein’, ‘Chalo Dildaar Chalo’, ‘Isharo Isharo Me Jadu Chalana’ and many more were sung by the renowned singers and the same essence was relived once again.
Rafi was notable for his versatility; his songs ranged from classical numbers to patriotic songs, sad lamentations to highly romantic numbers, qawwalis to ghazals and bhajans. He was known for his ability to mould his voice to the persona of the actor, lip-synching the song. People remembers him as “a warm-hearted simple person with no ego”.
