At the event, Dr. Abdul Kalam fondly recollected his visit to Sankara Mission’s Head Quarters at Coimbatore and complimented them for the yeomen service to society. Mrs. Arundhati Bhattacharya, chairperson, State Bank of India, was the Guest of Honor at the occasion.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. V. Shankar, Chairman of Shanmugananda Sabha exclaimed that the quantum services rendered by Sankara are mind boggling and defy normal understanding. Over a million eye surgeries, over 3 million patients examined in 359 village blocks in 79 districts in 10 States. 50 Lakh children screened for eye ailments, a lakh glasses distributed, 23,000 schools screened through eye camps, 17,000 teachers trained and over 7000 Pediatric eye surgeries speak volumes of the reach of Sankara Eye Hospitals.
“It is no denying that Dr. Ramani’s Visionary Leadership has helped spread the Institution and its activities far and wide. The History of Eye Care in our Country can never be complete without generous encomiums for the services rendered by him and his team,” concluded Mr. V. Shankar.
