BCR NEWS/GOA: ‘The Guest’ is a film about how one’s life deviates when an unexpected visitor from your past arrives back into your present with some furtive purposes and changes the world of our protagonist. The turns and twists of the on screen circumstances would keep the spectators held tightly to their seats.
When asked, the director of the film Mr. Alvaro Turrion stated that, “This is the story about how an individual is trying to cope up with two different situations at a time. One is about what he is in real life and another is about what he turns into when he is trying to keep his love life safe.”
Further, actor Mariano Palacious added to the conversation, “This entire development was very particular because my character is playing two roles at a time. When we first had the script in our hand it was just 30 pages but after that we all went through many discussions, workshops, character analysing processes. As you can see that eighty percent of the entire film is shot in just one apartment, so we had many challenges. Luckily Alvaro was very clear about what he wants from every department.”
It is a very different kind of a film, this is not the type of film which the general Mexican audience would like to watch but we took a chance. Mexican audiences are persuaded towards Chick Flicks and Rom-Com kind of subjects. Even after knowing this, the director Turrion took a great chance because they really had faith in the story and wanted to adopt the need of an hour, which is OTT platforms. They have realized that today’s generation is an online generation and they will accept anything and everything which will provide them with good entertainment with really good subjects. Mariano sayas. “We don’t have the budget to make Marvels or D.C type mammoth projects so we are happy with low budget Chick Flicks and Rom-Com and they really do well at Box offices. Still we decided to take this chance because Digital Release is larger than theatre release. We can target more than 200 countries and worldwide audiences at once.”This film has been appreciated everywhere and also received standing ovations during the screening of 52nd IFFI under World Panorama Category.
