BCR NEWS (NOIDA/DELHI):  In line with its commitment to Clinical Excellence and Patient Centricity, the Fortis Hospital Noida has launched the 256 slice per second CT Scanner, one of the fastest and most powerful CT scanners in the industry.

Dr. Dinesh Kapoor, Director Radiology says, “The 256-slice CT scanner goes far beyond the heart diseases in offering diagnostic uses. This technology is versatile and can be applied in studying vascular diseases in the body. Doctors can look at vascular diseases from the head to the foot at very low radiation rate which is beneficial for patients. This technology enables minute study of neurological, orthopedic and oncological diseases also.”

Dr. Kapoor further elaborated, “The technology offers accurate readings on diseases through superior resolution of images. Vessels like the renal arteries, carotid arteries, or arteries of the legs can be examined for diseases with more precision now.”

The technology is reputed to be as fast as a blink of an eye. The 256-slice CT scanner is a non-invasive imaging technology that takes only one second to scan the organs and tissues inside the body and provide complete integrated images with each rotation. Cardiologists can get a picture of the human heart within a second with the 256 CT scanner with the benefits of a significant reduction in the radiation exposure for the patient. The scanner can be used to study all parts of the body, such as the chest, belly, pelvis, or an arm or leg. It can take pictures of body organs, such as the liver, pancreas, intestines, kidneys , bladder  adrenal glands, lungs, and heart. It also can study blood vessels, bones, and the spinal cord. The exposure to radiation is predicted to be 60% lesser in patients with the usage of this scanner as opposed to regular CT scan technology.

A study of the body scans allows doctors to characterize patients and predict the disease patterns that organs may follow. This is beneficial to patients as it lowers risk and eliminates unnecessary tests from being conducted to ascertain further treatment.

Cardiologists opine that with an entire 3D image of the heart that the technology offers medical practitioners are able to view the arteries in the anatomy with excellent and greater detail. Early signs of diseases can be detected; diagnosis that cannot be done through other testing modalities is made possible and the required treatment can be extended to patients in a more integrated way.

The CT scanner is designed to meet the demands of accurate imaging from head to toe for precision in treatment. This system provides the answer to doctors seeking optimized quality which is not only the demand of the day but also becoming increasingly important in the healthcare industry.”

Research reveals that medical radiation which is attributed to CT scan has been responsible for two percent of all cancers. It is also said to have resulted in increased prevalence of cataracts. The upgraded 256 slice CT scanner offers multiple benefits. Patients are not required to hold their breath during the scan as was the case earlier; they do not require any sedation or recovery time as there are minimal side effects of the dye used; with accurate images the patient is not exposed to repeated tests which lead to lesser exposure to radiation; treatment received is much more accurate and preventive measures can be prescribed for patients at high risk.
