Mumbai Bureau: Leading free to air Hindi GEC channel, Dangal TV continues to raise the bar of entertainment for its viewers by telling meaningful and engaging stories like ‘Aye Mere Humsafar’ and ‘Prem Bandhan’. Now the channel is all set to unveil yet another enduring tale titled ‘Ranju Ki Betiyaan’ with an aim to strengthen its original programming in the G.E.C. space. R.K.B. is produced by Rashmi Sharma Telefilms.
This show promises to play the role of an eye – opener for the stubborn patriarchal society, showing the journey of a solo mother struggling to raise her four daughters and self-centred father who wants a Boy baby in his family. The lead cast has communal insights about the character and the plot with our Bureau Chief Mumbai, Swati Bhat.
Swati B – “Reena, you are playing the title role in the show “Ranju Ki Betiyan” Would like to know more about this character.”
Straight to the point, “Well, Ranju is a very tough character and is very responsive. Her daughters are her utmost strength. She got married when she was very young and has four daughters with Guddu Mishra (played by Ayub Khan). Her husband Guddu, leaves her for Lalita (played by Deepshikha Nagpal) after learning that she cannot give him a son, leaving Ranju in a basket of troubles and struggling to raise their daughters. She is almost in a combat with the society who still believes that a female cannot raise her children, especially daughters by herself and an abandoned wife is an accessible woman. This is exactly why she is trying to edify her daughters because she doesn’t want her daughters to be brought up to have the equal kind of brawl and strive for the respect she never got from her man.”
Swati B – Deepshikha, I would like to know something about your character, as I have come to know that your character Lalita is a strong headed Bong woman.
Deepshikha had a laughing riot and Ayub Khan, overlapping her laughter added that “Her character is so much like she is in real life. She feels rejuvenated after the pack up when we all are waiting to reach home.” Deepshikha agrees and continues with an agreeing smile on her face, “Oh Yes! Lalita is a strong personality, a confident woman, would do anything for her family and she loves a good life, I am like that too. My character is of a Bengali glam-doll from Muzzaffarpur, who loves her family and her husband Guddu Mishra a lot. She has just acquired money and loves to show off her wealth. This is a show, where they are touching complications of love in the parent’s life rather than the traditional serials where parent’s play the supporting role in their children’s love life. Lalita is a character who can come across anything for her family. She’s been with Guddu since fourteen years. When she comes to know about the previous marriage of Guddu, she does everything to save her relationship, so this way her antagonist arc is justified.” Personally Deepshikha feels more in resonance with the character of Ranju who is a single mother like her and is single-handedly raising her kids without help of any man.
Swati B – “Ayub ji! What was your drill as Guddu Mishra?
He laughs and says that “Before you start comparing, let me tell you that I am not at all like Guddu in my real life.” Laughs! “Actually, my character Guddu Mishra is an abiding son who agrees to marry Ranju because of his father’s wish but in the long run he introspects that this is not the relationship he imagined and he leaves Ranju for Lalita in pursuit of his true adoration. In the plot, Guddu Mishra is the one, who is creating currents to push the boat of story forward. He is the one bringing in twists and turns which affect all the characters and their stories. The design of the serial has given every character their own effective standpoint where their being in the situation is completely justified and nobody is being unfair just because they have to. The relationship of Guddu and Ranju is shown as a very up-to-date and practical arrangement while on the other hand Guddu and Lalita’s on-screen chemistry is very traditional which is opposite to all the characters.” In a nutshell, Ayub Khan summarises this entire show as a progressive point of view on a woman’s singlehood glorifying her emotional strengths. This show is about liberating a woman from a patriarchal mind-set where presence of a male is considered as the most important thing to support and grow a family.
When I asked the Trio about their relationship with their kids, they all preferred not to say anything and watch the show to know more.
Talking on behalf of the network and the channel, Manish Singhal, M.D. at Enterr10 Television Network said, “At Enterr10, we are focused on aiming strong and relevant stories across the length and breadth of our country. We want to present in every household in India. We have consistently invested in content with an aim to reach Indian masses and hope to create a difference with meaningful and thought-provoking storytelling.”
With an enthusiasm to publicize the new show, the Producer Rashmi Sharma takes over and says, “We are very happy to partner with Dangal TV once again for yet another story that is naive yet so impactful. With this show, we hope to strike a triad in the viewer’s heart and resonate with them.”
