BCR News (Ajay Shastri/New Delhi): Yuva Kranti Yatra, the ambitious nationwide rally by the Indian Youth Congress has reached West Bengal and plans to spend the day at Howrah organising a Public meeting with the party workers.

The Indian Youth Congress, earlier this month took up the herculean task of organising a massive rally covering the length and breadth of the entire country to bring issues concerning the nation before the public and also to throw their weight behind issues of the States.

After a puja at Rameshwaram, the rally was flagged off from Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu by Senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy, Tamil Nadu State President Subburaman Thirunavukkarasar, AICC Secretary Sanjay Dutt, Indian Youth Congress National President Keshav Yadav, and Vice-President Srinivas BV before a gathering of 7000 people.

The rally proceeded to Kerala where it was joined by a bike rally of 1000 bikes at Parashala led by Kerala Pradesh Youth Congress President Dean Kuriakose. The rally stopped at night for a public meeting at Cochin and then proceeded towards Dharampur covering Ernakulum, Palakkad, Coimbatore, and Sulur. At Dharampur it was received by another group of 1000 bikers and proceeded towards Hosur and then to Salem.

The Yatra entered Karnataka where the torch of the Yatra was handed over by Tamil Nadu President Hassan to Karnataka President Basannagauda. The rally reached Attibele for a public meeting and cultural programs and then moved to Devanahalli. The torch was handed over to Andhra Pradesh at Anantapur toll and the rally proceeded for another public meeting. The issue of “Special Category Status” was raised by a crowd of 3000 youth that had gathered to support the Yatra. The rally proceeded to Telangana and back to Andhra Pradesh along with a Bike Rally at Vishakhapatnam.

The rally then proceeded to Odisha where it was greeted by 15,000 people strong crowd that sought accountability from Centre and State Government for the rampant mining by the mafia. The rally was attacked by BJP Cadres at Khurda, Odisha when they raised slogans demanding Joint Parliamentary Committee probe in Rafale Scam. Heavy stone pelting was done by BJP goons who had gathered to hear PM Modi speech in Odisha on the same day. Many Youth Congress members including the driver of the van suffered injury and the vehicles of the Yatra was damaged by the BJP goons.

After the intervention of local police, the Yatra moved towards West Bengal and entered at Midnapore where it halted for a day to celebrate Christmas at Midnapore Church and visit Swami Vivekananda Belur Math. The rally has reached Howrah and plans to proceed towards North-East India.

The rally is being led by Indian Youth Congress National President Keshav Yadav and Vice President Srinivas BV. It is joined by various senior Congress leaders, state units along with State President, In-charge and NOB in their respective States. The Yatra carries a torch which is being handed over from one State President to another State President when the Yatra enters a new State. The torches symbolises awakening of the people wherever it reaches.
